Got one at last. OK, so it has been converted to a ZX81 but it looks the part on the shelf. There is a cord at the back which is for the power supply (apparently this is because the original power supply connector was a bit dodgy on these machines - thanks to Jens Kilian for this info). There is also a button which was labelled "reset" and I can only imagine was used to reboot the machine. If you click on the picture you'll get some larger views. Apologies for the quality of the photos but the camera I have tries its best.

Like its follower the ZX81, the ZX80 used the Z80a 8-bit CPU and custom logic chips. It was the machine that precipitated the rapid fall in computer prices.

It had a 4k Sinclair Integer BASIC ROM, 1k RAM and a membrane keyboard.

The display was via your television set delivered by RF modulated video output. It was monochrome with 32x22 characters.

The whole thing was packaged in a white plastic case of inferior qulaity to that used for the later machines. Like many earlier Sinclair products, the ZX80 was available in kit form.

This machine is now selling for staggering prices, especially on the ebay site which is notorious for daft figures. The price of a good, boxed ZX80 is not far off that of a decent modern PC! It is indicative of the collectable nature of Sinclair's products.
